Marauders win on walk-off hit, 5-4

After getting behind early, the Dunkirk Marauders (1-1, 2-1) battled back for a walk-off, 5-4 win, over Falconer (3-1, 3-1) in a Section VI CCAA Division 1 West baseball game at Dunkirk High School, on Wednesday. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Alex Ahlstrom hit a double that scored Phil Messina and won the Marauders their first league game.

Peyton Ahlstrom was on the hill for Dunkirk and went 5 1/3 innings, while giving up four runs but striking out 11. Jared Glowniak came in for relief and earned the win for Dunkirk — Glowniak struck out three batters in his 1 2/3 innings of work.

Falconer got on the board early in the game, scoring all of their runs in the first. Bobby Samuelson went 4-for-4 for the Golden Falcons, hitting a double then scoring a run; Ben Schrader added an RBI single, then Jacob Payne hit an RBI double to put up Falconer, 4-0.

Dunkirk found their first run in the bottom of the third, when Alex Ahlstrom hit into a fielders choice that scored Tristan Skelly. Peyton Ahlstrom settled in on the mound after the early damage by Falconer and helped out offensively by getting a big three-run home run in the third inning to tie it, 4-4.

Mark Wilcox was on the hill to start for Falconer, but only went two innings and gave up three earned runs. Nate Abbey came in for relief and was listed as the losing pitcher for the Golden Falcons.

Dunkirk will seek consecutive league wins as they take their talents to Chautauqua Lake today.

Falconer hopes to get back in the win column today when they travel to Brocton.

Silver Creek 7, Cassadaga Valley 4

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Silver Creek Black Knights picked up a road win in CCAA Division 1 West baseball action on Wednesday, with a 7-4 win over the Cassadaga Valley at Cassadaga Valley High School.

Silver Creek (4-1, 3-1) got a win from Andre Rosario on the mound. He threw six innings, allowing three runs on six hits with only one walk, compared to seven strikeouts.

Ethan Brunner pitched the seventh inning and allowed one run on two hits, with a pair of walks and a strikeout.

Cassadaga Valley (0-5, 0-3) had a solid start from Connor Crabtree on the mound, allowing three runs and not factoring into the decision. He also had the game’s lone multi-hit performance.

Silver Creek now moves on to face Dunkirk on Friday in another league contest, in Silver Creek.

Gowanda 3, Allegany-Limestone 2

GOWANDA — The Gowanda Panthers pulled off an impressive 3-2 victory over Allegany-Limestone on Wednesday in CCAA Division 1 East high school baseball.

Brendan Weinaug pitched the Panthers out of a bases-loaded jam while Tanner Olson went five strong innings, striking out five and walking two. He gave up five hits and no earned runs. Ryan Zinda also pitched a gem, going the final three innings, allowing just one hit.

The winning run was scored in the bottom of the eighth inning as Matt Smuda reached on a hit, moved to second on a wild pitch. Smuda then stole third as the throw from the catcher went into the outfield, allowing Smuda to race home for the team’s first league win of the season.

Clymer/Sherman 5, Westfield 2

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Wolverines fell (1-3, 1-4) to Clymer/Sherman (1-1, 2-1), 5-2, in a Section VI CCAA Division 2 West baseball game at Westfield High School, on Wednesday. The Wolverines had a one run lead in the sixth inning, but a four run sixth from the Pirates was enough to give them the win, 5-2.

Brock Schuster was on the hill for Westfield and went 5 1/3 innings pitched, striking out 10 and walking one, while giving up three earned runs on 10 hits.

Westfield got their runs early as Michael Johnson hit a two run home run in the third inning to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead. Offensively, Colby Bills added a double and went 2-for-3.

Lucas Willink started the game for the Pirates, but only pitched two innings and gave up two earned runs before turning the ball over to Derek Sears who earned the win.

Westfield will attempt to get back in the win column today as they travel to Maple Grove.

Frewsburg 10, North Collins 4

NORTH COLLINS –Frewsburg scored five runs in the third inning to pull away from North Collins en route to a 10-4 Division 2 East victory.

Jack Yost opened the third with a single before scoring on Aaron Hair’s RBI double. Nick Marsh followed with a walk before Nolan Brink reached on an error that scored Hair. With two outs, the runners moved up on a wild pitch before Traden Gray connected for a two-run single and Kaleb Bender scored on a wild pitch.

Gray finished with two hits and three RBIs while Yost and Caleb Carr also had two hits for the Bears (2-3, 1-1). Hair, Yost and Jason Dustin had doubles.
