Storm downs trees, branches in south county
A storm that moved through Chautauqua County late Wednesday downed trees and branches, causing some to lose power.
Reports of power lines down, as well as blown transformers, were received early into the morning.
In some locations, including Jamestown, large branches came down as a result of the storm. And in some instances, large trees were uprooted.
That was the case on Pleasantview Drive in the city, where a tree came down on top of a home around 11:30 p.m.
“It was terrifying. I thought it was a rolling crack of thunder that shook the entire house,” said Kimberly Larson, who was surveying the damage outside her home Thursday morning. “It fell on my daughter’s bedroom. At first we didn’t understand the extent of the damage. You just thought, ‘Oh, a tree limb fell,’ and then we couldn’t get out the front door.”
