Weavers Guild to meet

Chautauqua County Weavers Guild will hold its next meeting on Saturday, June 22, at 10 a.m. at the YWCA in Westfield. The program will be block weave structures. Anyone interested in weaving or the guild is welcome to attend. For more information, contact the guild at ccweaversguild@gmail.com.

Poker run and chicken barbecue benefit on Saturday

On Saturday, a poker run to benefit Stockton resident Emily Yonkers, diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in March, begins at 11 a.m. from the Stockton Hotel. The cost to participate is $10 per bike, and will end at the chicken barbecue benefit at the Chautauqua County Firemen’s Grounds, 4641 Railroad Ave., W. in Stockton.

The chicken barbecue takes place from 3 to 8 p.m.; tickets are $10. Take-outs are available. The event includes raffles and a 50/50 drawing to benefit 31-year-old Yonkers, who is currently undergoing treatment and is unable to work due to her compromised immune system. Get ready for the LHS Annual Giant Yard Sale

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold its Annual Giant Yard Sale Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18 at Floral Hall at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds. Looking ahead to this fundraiser, individuals may want to consider setting aside usable items they no longer need.

Drop-off days for donation items will be Tuesday, Aug. 13 through Thursday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. No large appliances, metal bed springs, magazines, encyclopedias, clothing (except shoes), or electronics (TV’s, computer monitors, towers and printers), please. Sarah Johnson Runaway Slave

Saturday at 2 p.m. in Leon’s 1836 Church, the Leon Historical Society presents “Sarah Johnson Runaway Slave.” Della Moore, director of the Olean African American Cultural Center will tell the story of this remarkable African American woman who escaped slavery to become one of Olean’s leading citizens.

A donation of $5 is suggested.#

The church is located on US Route 62 in the center of Leon.

No mobile food pantry truck in July

The mobile food pantry truck will not be at the Brocton/Portland Food Pantry during the month of July. The food pantry truck will be at the pantry on Aug. 1 and Aug. 29.

Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse huge yard sale begins today

The Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse is having a huge yard sale on June 21 through 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lighthouse grounds at 1 Lighthouse Point Drive in Dunkirk. All proceeds benefit the Lighthouse. Items for sale include books, furniture, housewares, crafts and holiday decorations, glassware, tools, golf clubs and balls, and many miscellaneous items.
