Minor fire quickly quelled in city
Dunkirk firefighters made quick work of a blaze that took place just after midnight Friday.
Around 12:12 a.m., crews were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 87 W. Fourth St. Upon arrival a small fire was found burning in the exterior of a wall of the second floor apartment adjacent to an elevated deck. The wall was opened and minimal fire extension was found. The fire was extinguished using a single hose line. The adjoining walls and the attic were checked for fire extension with negative results.
The scene was cleared at before 1 a.m. No residents were displaced by the fire and the cause is under investigation by city of Dunkirk Fire Investigators.

City of Dunkirk “Summer Better Than Others Day Camp”

Parents can sign up children who have graduated from kindergarten (ages 5 through 11) for a week of summer day camp at Camp Gross in Cassadaga. There are six sessions of recreational, athletic and educational experiences available for the weeks from July 12 ending Aug. 13. Youth to staff ratio is 6:1 and lower for waterfront activities. Children may be signed up for a maximum of two weeks. Children will be picked up and dropped off by bus at five designated locations in Dunkirk. The cost for one week of camp for City of Dunkirk residents is $40 per child, with every additional child in the family at $30 per child. Junior Camp Counselors ages 12 to 15 years are free. Registration will take place at the James Murphy Volunteer Fireman’s Training Grounds Conference Building, 665 Brigham Road, Dunkirk this week from 1 to 4 p.m. Starting June 28, in addition to sign-up by city residents, registration for non-city residents is available at a cost of $50 for the first child/$35 for other children in the family.
