SENIOR CENTER TRIPS ANNOUNCED
Dunkirk Senior Center announces trip to Seneca Allegany Casino for Sweet Caroline Tribute to Neil Diamond. The event is Tuesday, Oct. 11. Trip includes ticket to show, $20 free slot play and $10 food voucher.
Dunkirk Senior Center also announces an “Exploring East Aurora” event on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Trip includes shopping at Vidler’s Five and Dime, Lunch at the Iron Kettle Landmark Restaurant. After lunch there will be a stop at Mayer Bros. Cider Mill and then on to the new “Niagara County Produce.”
NATIONAL GRID RETIREES LUNCHEON SET FOR SEPT. 13

UNITED SENIORS MEET SEPT. 12
On Aug. 8, the United Seniors met at the Kosciuszko Club around noon. Evonne Hennebery, president, led the Pledge, and everyone sang, “God Bless America.” A moment of silence was held for Josephine Wiercznski, a member that had recently passed away.
All members were welcomed; there weren’t any guests. President Hennebery led the invocation. Birthdays for this month were: Dorothy Derby, Deb Messere, Louise Richir and Marsha Sullivan. All members sang “Happy Birthday.” Thanks to the Kosciuszko Club for allowing the United Seniors to meet there, for a small fee, and to Pat Tripp for the delicious meal she prepared. Thanks to John Binko for lending the portable microphone/ speaker. Callers Hennebery and Linda Riley were thanked. The treasurer’s report was given and approved. A thinking of you-get well card was sent to Carm Johnson.
Bingo was provided by Rosemary Mancuso and Lucy Saeli. The next meeting will be Sept. 12. All monies ($12 per person) for the luncheon, if not already paid, can be sent to Hennebery, P.O Box 706, Dunkirk, N.Y. 14048. The menu for Sept. 12 will be tender roast beef, gravy on the side, red parsley potatoes, tossed salad, and broccoli/cauliflower/ carrot mixed veggies. Fall is slowly approaching; the members hope to see everyone there.
All guests are invited, and new members can join for a fee of $5 a year. In future meetings, when Evonne cannot attend, monies can be sent to Linda Riley, 264 King St. Dunkirk, N.Y 14048. ($12).
COUNTY HEALTH BOARD MEETS SEPT. 15
MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Board of Health will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the HRC building, B-14, basement level conference room, 7 N. Erie St., Mayville. Comments received from the public will be accepted as communications, and not read during privilege of the floor. Public comments at the meetings during the privilege of the floor must be made in person. BACK TO SCHOOL BASH RESCHEDULED
Due to inclement weather Monday, the city, United Way of Northern Chautauqua County and Dunkirk Public Schools have decided to reschedule the Back to School Bash for Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Point Gratiot. The free community event is sponsored by National Grid, DFT Communications, Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, Wal-Mart, Dunkirk/Fredonia Rotary Club and Refresco. Pancho Billa book bags loaded with school supplies will be given to the first 300 children registered that afternoon. Local community agencies with giveaways will be located under a huge tent provided by Piede Brothers. A no-cost scavenger hunt drawing for a children’s bike donated by Wal-Mart, will also take place.

The Fredonia Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. today in the High School Library.
PATTERSON LIBRARY BOOK SALE
WESTFIELD — The Patterson Library in Westfield will hold several book club meetings in September. They include: Best Sellers at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 6 reading “Cloud Cuckoo Land” by Anthony Doerr; Literary Circle at 1 p.m. Sept. 10 reading “Miss Lonelyhearts” by Nathanael West; Mystery Book Club at 4 p.m. Sept. 21 reading “A Duty to the Dead” by Charles Todd; and Wanderlust at 4 p.m. Sept. 22 reading “Of Women and Salt” by Gabriella Garia.
PATTERSON LIBRARY PODCAST WORKSHOP
WESTFIELD — On Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. at the Patterson Library in Westfield, teens and adults ages 13 and up can join us for a workshop and learn how to make their own podcast. Equipment will remain available for use in the library for those with continued interest. On Sept. 19 at 4 p.m., the group will be running a tiny food party for children ages 7 to 12. Sign up online or at the library. After Hours Hide and Seek (limited to ages 13 and up) will be happening once again on Sept. 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. September children’s programming will be wrapping up Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. with a Smash Bros tournament for ages 9 and up.
