Car show set

for July 29

A Craig M. Sutton Sr. Memorial Car Show is being planned for Saturday, July 29 from 1 to 5 p.m. at American Legion Post 62, 211 Central Ave, Dunkirk. Enter at back parking lot off Eagle Street. There is a $5 registration entry fee with proceeds to benefit the American Legion. Music provided by Chautauqua Audio Works. Food and drinks, door prizes, basket raffles, 50-50 raffle. Free admission to the public.

Coffee Club

meets Friday

The Roblin Steel Coffee Club will meet at 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 14, at Demetri’s in Dunkirk at 8:30 a.m.

Chicken barbecue is Aug. 11

The Annual Chicken barbecue for St. Paul Lutheran Church, 334 Temple St. will be Friday, Aug. 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 716-672-6731. Cost is $15 and will be take outs only.

Entries sought

at Floral Hall

The 2023 Floral Hall Exhibitor’s Handbook is now available online at chautauquacofair.org. Just click on the drop down menu in the top right corner of the homepage, then click on “Fair Exhibitor Handbooks” and scroll down to find Floral Hall Exhibitor Handbook. Then, click on “button” and then click on “floral hall handbook” to open. Entry forms are included at the end of the document.

For the first time, exhibitors can email their filled-out Floral Hall Entry forms to: cofair@netsync.net with “Attention Floral Hall Entry Clerk” on the subject line. Just scan or take a visible picture of your filled-out entry form and attach the file to the email. Then, you can pay your entry fees when you come to pick up your printed entry tags during either pre-fair week (10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today to Friday) or on entry Saturday, July 15 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Brocton-Portland Seniors meet

July 25

BROCTON — Brocton-Portland Seniors met Tuesday, June 27 at Brocton Legion with 65 members and guests. George Travis led the Pledge of Allegiance with Shane West giving prayer of thanks.

The Harmony Express Barbershop Quartet entertained beautifully in song and stories for all. They will be in Brocton Dec. 3 at the Tri Church Parish.The committee for the day was Shane West, Tom DeJoe, Elaine Frederickson, Linda Riley and Margaret Jagoda did the strawberries. Pizza was from Pizza Guru, salad and fresh strawberry shortcake was enjoyed.

Tables set with artificial desserts made by Linda Riley were raffled off with a table of items from members. Door prize winners were Bill Hipwell and Judy Travis.

The money raffle had eight happy winners. President Robin Carr announced a casino trip to Allegany on Monday, July 31 with members to call her.

New members Linda Miller, Fred Higginbotham, Cythia Lappies and Terry Freeman were welcomed. Ahira Hall Library July-August programs listed the concert schedule in Ryckman Park in Brocton on Thursdays through July with three more in August. The next meeting is July 25.

Committee is Tom DeJoe, Denise Griffin, Rita Bennett, Rose and Laurel Giambra, Robin Carr and Sue Schrantz. Members are to bring picnic foods to go with the hot dogs and burgers and personal table service. Bingo will be played if there is no program. New members are welcome.

Route 380 work

Construction crews will be rehabilitating Kimball Stand-Stockton Road, County Route 380. The project will end July 17. The road will not be closed. Expect lane closures with flaggers and signage during the weekday hours of 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A detour will not be posted. Please plan on taking an alternate route.
