Dunkirk resident sentenced for gun incident at city business

A Dunkirk man is headed behind bars for threatening people with a firearm at a city business.

According to District Attorney Jason Schmidt, Jimmy Watts, 49, has been sentenced to 8 years in state prison with 5 years of post-release supervision by Judge David Foley after being convicted of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class C violent felony.

In March 2023, the Dunkirk Police Department responded to a report of an individual waiving a gun and pointing it at patrons of a business on Lakeshore Drive in the City of Dunkirk. In September 2023 Watts pled guilty to the weapon charge and did not receive a reduction.

Schmidt would like to thank the Dunkirk Police Department for their swift response and hard work on this case. It was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Andrew Molitor.
