Three quietly leave Fredonia board

EvaDawn Bashaw

Fredonia Trustees EvaDawn Bashaw, Roger Britz and Scott Johnston left the Village Board quietly this week.

None of the trio said anything publicly about their time on the board, as it zipped through a 15-minute meeting to close the year.

Bashaw and Britz were not re-elected and Johnston, an appointee from earlier in 2021, did not seek a full term. The board never replaced Heidi Powell, another appointee who resigned.

James Lynden will be the only holdover trustee when the board opens 2022 with a Monday, Jan. 3 meeting at Village Hall. Dave Bird, Jon Espersen, Nicole Siracuse and Michelle Twichell won trustee seats in the November election.

The Jan. 3 meeting already shows a change in the way trustees do business. It will include a workshop at 6:30 p.m., followed by the official meeting at 7:30. The current Board of Trustees held workshops and meetings on separate days.

Roger Britz

Monday, Britz and Johnston said they had no comments when their alloted time for reports came up. Bashaw had just one comment: she wished to correct a misconception about Barker Common, saying that perimeter lighting is adequate and looks nice.

As the meeting ended, Bashaw removed her name plate from its holder and texted someone. Britz and Johnston had no apparent reactions.

Lynden had no comments about the departing trustees. Neither did Mayor Douglas Essek, a former trustee who once was close with Britz but distanced himself after getting elected mayor.

Starting at $3.50/week.
