Advent Recitals begin Wednesday

The First United Presbyterian Church of Dunkirk will present the first in a series of three weekly Marsh Memorial Advent Recitals for 2022. On Wednesday at noon in the church sanctuary Organist Don Fellows will perform.

Fellows recently retired as Organist and Director of Music of Saint Paul Cathedral, Pittsburgh from 1999 to 2021. Previously he was Chair of the Fine Arts Teaching Area, and Director of Liturgical Music at Wadhams Hall Seminary-College, and as Music Director of St. Mary’s Cathedral, both in Ogdensburg, New York. He served as Associate Organist and Choirmaster of Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago from 1991-1993, and from 1982-1991 as Director of Music at St. Joseph Cathedral in Buffalo. Upon graduation from SUNY Fredonia he served as Music Director of Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Dunkirk from 1980 to 1982.

He earned a Bachelor of Music degree and Master of Music degree from SUNY Fredonia in 1980 and 1987. He has performed organ recitals throughout the United States, as well as Rome, Dublin, and Madrid. Don has several compositions that are published by G.I.A. Publications Inc., Morningstar Publications, and Augsburg Press.

This free musical program is designed to provide members of the church community and the general public with an opportunity for a period of peaceful reflection and contemplation during the hour at mid-week, throughout the Advent and Lenten seasons.

SOAR Christmas party set

USW SOAR Chapter 4 will have a Christmas Party Wednesday at the First Ward Falcon Club in Dunkirk. The party is open to SOAR members and their spouses. The festivities will begin at 5 p.m.
