Sinclairville library offers update

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Sinclairville Free Library will be closed Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 30. The library will reopen on Monday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.

Neighborhood Nature with Corinne Kelly is moving to Wednesdays at 4 pm starting Dec. 4. CVCS Science Teacher, Corinne Kelly, will be your guide for a fun, hands-on program that encourages kids to explore and connect with the plants, animals, and ecosystems right in their own backyards. Earn badges and become a certified “Nature Neighbor.” For ages 7 and up. Registration Requested.

Christmas Family Sing Along on Saturday, Dec. 7 is from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Join local library patron, Hope Fredrickson, as she leads families on an adventure in music. She will play family friendly Christmas songs on our electric piano. Program is open to the community.

Be sure to get your tickets for the Holiday Raffle Basket featuring a crocheted tote bag filled with goodies. Tickets are $2 a piece or 3 for $5. Drawing will be held Wednesday, Dec. 18.

Sons of Legion holding monthly meeting

The Sons of American Legion Squad 59 will be holding its monthly meeting Monday at 7 p.m. at Post 59, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia.

All SAL Squadron 59 are encouraged to attend the meeting.

Marsh Memorial Advent series begins The First United Presbyterian Church of Dunkirk, 19 W. Fourth St., will present the first in a series of three weekly Marsh Memorial Advent Recitals. On Wednesday, Dec. 4, at noon in the church sanctuary Ginny Miller, soprano, Bridget Majka, soprano, and Dr. Linda Phillips, piano, will perform. This free musical program is designed to provide members of the church community and the general public with an opportunity for a period of peaceful reflection and contemplation during the hour at mid-week, throughout the Advent and Lenten seasons.

United Seniors meet again Dec. 9

The United Senior Citizens met Oct. 14 at the Falcon Club in Dunkirk and enjoyed not only a delicious herb roasted pork tenderloin lunch with all the fixings, but had John D’Agostino as a featured speaker. D’Agostino is well known for his experience as editor of the OBSERVER, Post-Journal and the Warren, Pa., Times Observer. He spoke about current events in the area.

November’s luncheon meeting fell on Veterans Day and consisted of baked ham, baked chicken, Au Gratin potatoes, glazed carrots, tossed salad prepared by Allison Kozlowski and brownie dessert provided by Marcia Zmuda. After reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing God Bless America, a moment of silence was given to acknowledge 92 year old passing member, Delores Campbell. Member Marsha Sullivan brought a guest, Diane Millonzi and Veteran John Weidenhofer was honored for his service to our Country while four other Veteran members: John Binko, Tom DeJoe, Carol Portman and Kathy Hobbs were thanked even though they were absent. After lunch members stayed to play bingo with Rosemary Mancuso and Lucy Saeli calling.

Dec. 9 will be the last meeting of the year and lunch will feature Italian sausage with peppers and onions, baked chicken, asparagus, mashed potatoes with gravy on the side and tossed salad. Members can send their $15 check made out to United Senior Citizens to Evonne Hennebery, P.O. Box 706, Dunkirk, NY 14048 by Dec. 2.

United Senior Citizens is a social senior group welcoming members 55 years and older and meets the second Monday of the month March through December at the Falcon Club, 341 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk. Dues are $5 per year and promotes members to meet, greet and eat with family and friends. Bingo is usually played after lunch and announcements. Legion Auxiliary holds meeting

CASSADAGA — The Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 held its regular monthly meeting Nov. 12 with 11 members present. The meeting opened in regular fashion, the previous meeting minutes were read, and the treasurer’s report given.

Chaplain Paula Pattison reported she had sent get well and sympathy cards to members as needed. Membership chairperson Sally Lawson is now accepting 2025 dues.

Unit 1280’s quota for 2025 is 185 paid members with 65% paid for 2025. Dues are $30, and can be paid by mail, or they can be dropped off at the Post.

Members of Unit 1280 made food for the joint County Legion meeting on Oct. 25. The annual Vendor Showcase/Bake Sale held on Oct. 26 went well, with 19 vendors selling their wares. Halloween was a big hit, as members passed out candy, books and craft kits to more than 140 visiting ghosts, goblins, princesses. A collection box is in the Post for the Blue Star Mothers annual Christmas Care packages for the Troops stationed overseas. Items will be collected through Dec. 3.

Unit 1280 members with the Sons of the Legion held a veterans dinner and ceremony on Sunday Nov. 10. It also is working with the Legion and Sons on future activities that include Decking the Halls at the Post on Sunday, Dec. 1. Members present voted to donate money to a benefit to 2 local food pantries along with the items that were collected at the Post, the Blue Star Mothers to help with postage, and the Tordoff Scholarship fund at CVCS.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m.All members are encouraged to attend, to help our mission to help the veterans and community.
